Hi everyone, it’s Kou here.
Weekly Shonen Jump 2026 Issue 24 came out a few days ago, and I’m finally getting around to writing up my thoughts on ONE PIECE Chapter 1182 “Zaza.” There’s so much to unpack in this chapter that my head couldn’t keep up, so I’m just going to talk about things in the order they hit me.

⚠️ Spoiler Warning
This article contains spoilers for ONE PIECE Chapter 1182 “Zaza.” If you haven’t read the latest chapter or you’re following along with the anime or volumes only, please come back after you’ve caught up!
Let’s Start with the Cover Page—Issho Is Huge!
Before I get into the main story, I have to talk about the cover page.
This week features Admiral Fujitora (Issho), happily slurping udon noodles made for him by a fox and a tanuki (raccoon dog) in headbands. His cheeks are puffed out, and the whole image is just radiating warmth.
The bowl’s size is a little hard to gauge, but seeing it in Issho’s hands, it looks pretty big—probably an extra-large serving. The fox and tanuki are also beaming with what might be tears, might be sweat, but either way they look thrilled to be cooking for him. Honestly, this whole panel makes me smile.
And the text on the bowl—“Issho Udon”—is just *chef’s kiss*. I can picture Issho finishing the meal and saying “Gochisousama deshita, that was delicious,” with genuine gratitude. So yeah, Admiral Issho really is huge. Not just the udon bowl in his hands—the man himself, in every sense.
Bonney Is Adorable! Please Stay Safe!
The first thing I wanted to shout when I got into the main chapter was this:
Bonney is so adorable!
Please don’t fight, just stay somewhere safe and watch from a distance. Vegapunk, you’d better protect her with your life. Please.
This Elbaf arc has gotten so brutal that if Bonney ends up on the front lines, my stomach won’t survive it. Stay in the back, please, I’m begging you.
Vivlo Returns—There Have to Be More Hidden Passages, Right?
Something that really caught my attention was Vivlo showing up again. And then the reveal of a hidden passage.
There has to be more of them, right? Vivlo’s been protecting what’s essentially Elbaf’s library, and there’s no way the structure has just one secret route.
Also, the fact that Vivlo is completely silent bugs me in a great way. Is it that he can’t speak, or that he chooses not to, or something else entirely?
This character is sitting on some kind of big secret, I can feel it. Definitely keeping an eye on him going forward.
Im vs. Nyx Hogg—Visually Stunning
And then we get to the main event: Im versus Nyx Hogg (Loki). The Ragnagore Arrow and Tzitzimitl exchange—visually, this was insane. Anime, please hurry up and catch up! I want to see this in motion. Repeatedly.
Tzitzimitl, which spawns these little demon-like figures out of a halo-like ring up in the sky, kind of reminded me of Gecko Moria’s Shadow-Shadow shadows. And then they just keep raining down endlessly—like infinite little bombs being dripped out of the sky.
There’s something about that “endless emission” that made me feel infinite possibility. The scale of the technique itself is impressive, sure, but it also suggests Im has way more cards left to play.
Meanwhile, Loki is launching attacks of his own non-stop, and both sides are blocking and absorbing each other’s hits—but neither of them seems to be taking real damage. That’s kind of eerie. It makes me think Im hasn’t even gone full power yet. Loki keeps eating attacks and still has enough breath to keep talking, after all.
Maybe the actual game right now is “Loki’s side has to survive until Im’s physical form runs out of stamina here in the mortal world.” Since he’s descended in person, there has to be some kind of time limit on this form. Buying time might be the only viable strategy.
“Traitor”—What Happened in the Void Century?
And then Im drops the word “traitor.”
This tells me Im and Nyx Hogg have already met in the past, and given that he’s calling him a traitor, something must have gone down during the Void Century.
Im has been a silhouette only for so long, and suddenly we’re getting all this lore in quick succession. “Just like back then,” “How nostalgic”—these aren’t words you throw at a pure enemy. There’s something emotional under there.
To call someone you used to stand beside a “traitor,” there has to be a real story behind it. And I’m pretty sure we’re going to hear that story soon. Can’t wait.
Sommers Is Still Creepy, but What a Character
And then there’s Sommers. I’ve felt this since they first started kidnapping kids, but that guy is just creepy.
I can’t bring myself to like him, but he’s “a great character” in the villain sense. Being able to draw a hateable character that’s genuinely hateable is a craft, and Oda’s nailing it.
We’ve already been told he doesn’t have a human heart, so he’s officially in non-human territory now. And then he casually carries a massive ship on his back that even giants couldn’t move alone? What even is this man.
Gerth Is Adorable. Big Is Beautiful—Not Saying Of What
Gerth is adorable. Really, truly adorable.
And, well, big really is beautiful. I won’t specify of what.
Chopper showing up to treat her was a small but meaningful moment of relief in this chapter. The crushing despair lifted just a tiny bit, which I appreciated.
By the way, the bit about Gerth’s fingers being cut so cleanly that they could potentially be reattached—that reminded me of a scene from SAKAMOTO DAYS, during the Kanto Branch arc. If I remember right, when Takamura cut Raku, the cut was so clean and precise that reconnection was possible.
The “saved precisely because the cut was clean” trope is a cool overlap between the two series. Felt like a nice little parallel.
Zaza, the Rain Goddess—Cute Name, and Visually Right Up My Alley
And here we are at the chapter’s titular figure: Zaza, the rain goddess.
First of all, the name is cute. “Zaza” is almost certainly taken from the Japanese onomatopoeia “za-za,” the sound of pouring rain. As a name for a god, it has this charming looseness to it.
What I found really interesting was that, to the Celestial Dragons, “water falling from the sky” is a source of terror. That genuinely surprised me.
But if you flip it around—for us, “fire falling from the sky” would be terrifying, right? Just because something is unknown, it can become an object of fear. That logic tracks.
We know rain. We have umbrellas for anything short of a disaster. A little drizzle isn’t even worth worrying about. So from that perspective, the Celestial Dragons and Killingham are honestly kind of cute in how scared they are.
And that got me thinking—Celestial Dragons live in such isolated luxury that there must be tons of things I take for granted that they don’t know at all. Like, “Coffee beans are roasted, ground, and then steeped in hot water to make coffee” or “the roast level, grind size, and water temperature all change the flavor”—maybe they don’t know any of that.
When I thought about it that way, they became just a little bit endearing. Emphasis on “a little bit.”
And as for Zaza’s visual design—this is exactly my type. Thank you, Oda-sensei.
She’s made of water, she’s huge (in various senses), she has the appearance of an older sister figure, and her mouth is covered.
Lots of, uh, productive thinking happened. Thank you very much, sincerely.
What I’m Hoping for Next Chapter—Zaza Might Have an Unexpected Weakness
The chapter ends right when Zoro and Sanji are about to make their comeback. I’m really looking forward to seeing what those two do next week—whether they manage to stop Killingham and Sommers, or how they handle Zaza.
My personal theory is that Zaza has an unexpected weakness.
The chapter mentions a “rain dance rhythm,” which makes me wonder—what if the “drum rhythm of liberation” associated with Nika, the Sun God, has the opposite effect? Like, hearing it would purify Zaza, or clear the rain entirely.
Rain dance in reverse, basically—a “sun dance.” Imagining Luffy’s drumbeat ringing through Elbaf again gives me chills. That would be peak.
Who Should Read This Chapter
- Anyone keeping up with the Elbaf arc in real time
- Fans hungry for more clues about Im’s mystery
- People waiting for Zoro and Sanji’s redemption arc
- Anyone whose taste, like mine, aligned a little too well with Zaza’s character design
Closing Thoughts—Some BGM for Your Reading Time
Reading Jump is honestly one of those activities where you want to fully immerse yourself, and having a little background music can really change how you experience the story.
I run a YouTube channel called “Silent Breeze” where I upload cafe-style, piano-based relaxing BGM. It’s great as reading music or work music, so please give it a try the next time you’re sitting down with a chapter.
Chapter 1183 releases on Monday, May 18, 2026.
See you all next week for the next review. This has been Kou!
